Thinking of a self-funded writers residency or writers retreat in Dunedin?
If you’re lucky enough to have your own funding, I’d love you to come and write here. Give yourself a weekend, a week, or a couple of months’ retreat from your everyday responsibilities. Focus on your writing and soak up the inspiring vibe of Dunedin’s literary scene and history. Stroll to the libraries and archives to do your research, or wander into a secondhand book shop. On the way, look out for famous local poets’ words etched into the footpath. Be careful though: you might not want to leave.
My two guest rooms are furnished with writers in mind. Each has a desk with an office chair, a lamp, plenty of power sockets, and USB-A & USB-C charging ports. There’s also a bookcase in each guest room. And a heater, of course, for writing late into chilly nights.
If I’m not at my own desk across the hallway, I’ll probably be writing—or meeting fellow writers!—in a nearby cafe or at the amazing public library.
New Zealand’s most literary city
Ōtepoti Dunedin is Aotearoa’s only UNESCO City of Literature, and life here is very conducive to writing. Many well known, emerging and aspiring New Zealand authors live here, and there’s an extensive calendar of literary events.
